Rotary Club donates to Family Resource Center

The Breakfast Rotary Club of Asheville generously donated over $4,000 of supplies to the Family Resource Center (FRC) today – helping them fulfill their mission to bring hope to students and families in the community. The donations consisted of two truck-loads of much needed, but often overlooked, hygiene supplies that will fill the shelves of the FRC pantry and go into care packages to be distributed.

Don Swaby, a member of the Rotary club who organized their donation drive, says they were initially working only with two schools’ emergency closets. When the organization found out about the Family Resource Center – which serves the entire Buncombe community – the Rotary Club shifted gears to purchase items for the FRC.

The Family Resource Center, located behind Enka Middle School, initially sprang into action during the beginning of the pandemic, getting food and lunches to students as Covid took a toll. Now, two years later, the FRC has expanded into both a pantry and a separate thrift-store style clothing donation center and continues to provide supplies to families in the community. Even as the hardships brought on by the Covid-19 crisis continue, the support that the FRC offers has only gotten stronger, thanks in part due to the efforts of the community such as the Rotary Club of Asheville
