We have several important pieces of information to share, including the PSAT, college applications, and AB Tech and NCVPS classes.

We know many juniors and some sophomores have opted to take the PSAT. We are working on rescheduling dates and locations. Please stay tuned and we will share those details as soon as they’re available.

High school seniors who are applying for college may be wondering about the college application process.  Please know that there will be consideration given for our current circumstances. We have heard from many individual colleges and also from Common App regarding their willingness to grant extensions and other help for students from our region due to the natural disaster.

BCS is offering college application support at Nesbitt Discovery Academy and Valley Springs Middle School on Tuesday, Oct. 15 and Wednesday, Oct. 16 from 9:00-11:00 and 1:00-3:00. High school counselors will be on hand at each location to assist students with the application process. Students are encouraged to bring a laptop if they have access to one. If not, no worries. We will have devices available for students onsite.

Students are also welcome and encouraged to reach out to your counselor or administrator with questions or needs about college applications.

The College Foundation of North Carolina continues to be a great resource to get students started on applying and paying for college. Use the link for more information.

Seniors are now able to use NC College Connect, a simplified college application process. The new pilot program allows qualifying students to bypass the traditional application process for participating colleges. Reach out to your counselornfor more information.

Students enrolled in A-B Tech courses may have received communication directly from A-B Tech this week. The college has announced its tentative plan  to reopen Oct. 28. Until we have more details about Buncombe County Schools resuming, they are under no obligation to complete assignments at this time. We’re working closely with A-B Tech on plans to help students succeed with their coursework once Buncombe County Schools are back in session. If your student has concerns they may not be able to successfully complete A-B Tech classes due to the storm, please have them reach out to their high school counselor.

Students enrolled in NCVPS courses, please know teachers are aware of the challenging circumstances in Buncombe County. Instructors will be supporting students to help them succeed as well. These students are also not obligated to complete any assignments until BCS resumes its semester.
