Students from Buncombe County Center for Career and Innovation (BCCI) recently had the unique opportunity to step into the shoes of health care professionals at the Mountain Area Health Education Center’s (MAHEC) educational hospital simulation. This immersive experience, designed to simulate real hospital and clinical environments, provided the students with hands-on learning opportunities beyond the traditional classroom setting.
The visit allowed BCCI students to engage directly with the complexities and challenges of healthcare delivery. MAHEC’s state-of-the-art simulation center is equipped with the latest in patient simulation technology, offering scenarios that range from routine patient care to emergency situations. Through this realistic and interactive environment, students were able to apply their theoretical knowledge in practical settings, honing their skills in patient care, communication, and clinical decision making.
Students rotated through various stations, which included emergency care, CPR, blood draws, and patient interaction exercises. The hands-on experience was supplemented by guidance and feedback from MAHEC’s experienced medical educators, who shared insights into patient care, teamwork, and the importance of empathy in healthcare.
