School Resource Officer Deputy Stanley Retires

A fixture in our schools for almost 20 years, Deputy Dan Stanley of the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office is taking his well-earned retirement. A surprise party was held by the School Resource Officers (SROs) from across BCS to celebrate his legacy and service.

“It’s been a fun trip,” said Deputy Stanley. “The kids, the teachers, the staff, and my fellow SROs - everyone inspired me along the way, and I inspired them - that’s what kept me going.”

Dept. Stanley has worked all over BCS, starting out at T.C. Roberson, roaming the halls of North Buncombe High for twelve years, and finishing out his tenure for the past six years in the Enka district.

“Our SRO division is the best around, and being an SRO is the best job to have,” said Dept. Stanley. “It’s a team sport, so I couldn’t have gotten here alone. Thanks to everyone I worked with for everything.”

Deputy Stanley has ten days left of service at our schools, then it’s off to retirement. How will he spend his well-earned rest? “Doing whatever my wife says,” said Dept. Stanley.
