The board further recognizes that student wellness and proper nutrition are related to a student’s physical well-being, growth, development and readiness to learn. A School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) is an on-going advisory group composed of individuals representing multiple areas of our community. The group acts collectively in providing advice to the school district about aspects of the school health program.

Sharing the Message of Wellness

One of our goals is to share the message of nutrition and wellness via our department's website that emphasizes the importance of nutrition AND fitness. Our site provides information on the nutrition and fitness for teachers, parents, and students, as well as a variety of learning tools.

Key Areas of our Wellness Policy

  • Other school-based activities designed to promote student wellness

We always welcome new voices! Meetings are open to all students, community stakeholders, parents, and educators who are interested in collaborating and learning more about the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) model.

You are invited to attend our 2021-2022 virtual meetings:

  • September 21, 2021

  • December 7, 2021

  • March 8, 2022

This school year (2021-2022) the meetings will be hosted virtually 3 pm - 4 pm via zoom.

These gatherings are held in the Maple Room of our Buncombe County Schools Central Office from 3:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. (175 Bingham Road, Asheville, NC 28806). Please enter at Door A (by the flagpole) for your Visitors Pass and directions to the Maple Room.
