TSA Information

The Buncombe County Schools’ Transportation Department and Special Services have offered a training program since April 2001 for bus drivers and transportation safety assistants (TSAs) who transport students with disabilities.

The program was developed to provide safer school transportation for students with disabilities.

It is imperative that each bus driver and TSA who transports students with disabilities receive this training. Since January 1, 2002, at least one person who has completed the program is required on a special education school bus or activity bus that is transporting wheelchair students, with the preference being for both the assigned driver and TSA to be certified.

If you are interested in taking this class, please see your schools designated person in charge of buses for details and to get registered. Candidates must be employed prior to signing them up for the class.
